Description

小说从《水浒传》中引出，根据《水浒传》中西门庆勾引潘金莲，杀潘夫武大郎，最后被武松所杀的情节展开，略加改动，描写了西门庆从发迹到淫乱而死的故事。
　　《金瓶梅》的书名从小说中西门庆的三个妾和宠婢潘金莲、李瓶儿、庞春梅的名字中各取一字而成。也有人认为，实际上有更深一层涵义，即“金”代表金钱，“瓶”代表酒，“梅”代表女色。
　　《金瓶梅》像写日记一样，它的故事是逐年逐月展开的。《金瓶梅》开篇说“话说宋徽宗皇帝政和年间”，表明《金瓶梅》写的是北宋末年政和年间的故事，恰好《金瓶梅》前六回写的潘金莲和西门庆偷情的故事是从《水浒传》中抄袭来的，读者早已知道《水浒传》的故事发生在北宋末年政和年间，于是更加深信不疑地认为《金瓶梅》写的真是北宋末年政和年间的故事。
