Art Envi turns your iPhone or iPod touch into a giant art gallery, with collections from the worlds best artists. It gives you easy, full-screen access to thousands of the worlds masterpieces, indexed by artist, along with information about the artists and their art. Plus you can add more.

From classics like the Mona Lisa and Botticellis Venus, to Rembrandts, Renoirs, van Goghs and Cézannes, Art Envi displays Web-based paintings the way you would expect on the iPhone: full screen, with multi-touch controls, in automated slide shows, Ken Burns effect moving pictures and scrolling image arrays. You can also add music to make your artistic journey more beautiful.

Want more art? You can add even more of our in-depth art exhibits directly from the app or from the App Store, including early, Renaissance, Baroque, Impressionist and Modern art as well as various artists. Or check out Art Authority. Art Authority includes more artists and works, indexing by period, ability to save images, access to in-depth information about each artist, and many other added features.

Please also check out our other Envi apps, all based on the acclaimed iEnvision Web-image browser. Classic and modern art and architecture, hot sports cars, cool haircuts, outer space from planet Earth to the furthest reaches of the Hubble, the great outdoors, and lots of just plain fun. Theres an Envi app for that!

Its a good start

Download went smoothly, as did the install. This app is a great idea, but as there is no built-in database in the app, every single photograph loads from the web. This is stated clearly in the description, but it would be nice if there was at least some sort of database. The downloads, even over WiFi, move fairly slowly, and I stared at a black screen for over a minute before I saw any art. Also, if this is just a web sorting, why is there no individual piece search? Its a great idea, and a great start, but the sluggish movement and mild inaccessibility make it hard to use as a quick reference. Hopefully subsequent updates will mend what is a lovely idea.

Getting There!

Great program with a vast amount of artists. Id like to be able to save/download images - and if the title of the particular peice of art could be written above or below (or if you could tap and see the name of the art), it would really be helpful.

Great Application

This is great for anyone who enjoys good art, plus it is only 99¢! Of course, there are some improvements that would be really beneficial: 1. Ability to select favorites (Artists, Pieces) 2. Information on each piece. Say, instead of clicking the web button to go to a bio of the painter, it goes to a page with information on that specific painting. And next to the painters name in the list there could be one of those arrow buttons like in other applications that would take you to a short bio of that author in the app, with links to a more full bio and a button to add to favorites. 3. And I agree it is a bit slow so it would be nice to have it sped up a bit. Otherwise, great job!

not bad for the price

this is a great app only thing missing is the name of the art works that you get. This is great for anyone interested in learning and revisiting those artists who are known and not so known but great to learn more works that you never knew you never knew.

Ohhh...if there were only more apps like this...

This is the first review ive written for an app. Its very encouraging that there are people out there making such beautiful apps as this. I very much enjoy browsing through the artists, and getting such easy access to such masterpieces! Its obviously not perfect yet, but well worth its meager sum. Instead of complaining about its shortcomings, Id rather urge you to buy this app - lets show everyone with our dollars that this is the kind of stuff that should be made.

Trisherb

This is a fabulous ap. Like having an art gallery in your pocket. Best API have! I would love to see the artists style listed in the menu and name of piece as others have suggested. Great work, thank you!

A Good Start But Very Incomplete as a Comprehensive Collection

This is a good start, and a bargain considering the price of art books. The slowness may simply reflect the amount of data needed to display such detail. There are, however, a lot of well known artworks and artists that are missing (as of August 8, 2008). Some examples from a single period, the Italian Renaissance, will demonstrate the limits of the collection. The Raphael slide show does not include the "School of Athens," while the Titian slide show does not include either the "Assumption" or the "Venus of Urbino." Moreover, the images of Michaelangelos Sistine Chapel ceiling seem to be very old ones from before the cleaning and restoration that took place in the 1980 and 1990s. Some major sculptors such as Ghiberti and Donatello are also missing, as are such architects as Brunelleschi and Palladio. There also is little or no ancient and medieval art, or art attributed to the most important artist before the Renaissance, Anonymous. The titles of the artworks should also be on the slides.
