Got an idea for a font but do not know where to start? Start with Font Drafts! A free tool that uses common font design practices in a simple workflow where you quickly can try out and improve your ideas.
Font Drafts is probably the first iOS app designed specifically to simplify the process of sketching fonts. It helps you quickly try how your letter designs fit together and to tweak small variations you might be uncertain about. When youre done, you will have a rough mockup for a font that you can continue working with in your desktop font editor.
Features:
- Super simple drawing environment. Draw or erase until you are satisfied with your letter shape.
- Quick preview text in real time. The letters will update while you draw so that you always can get a sense of how your adjustments affect the big picture.
- Get started quickly by drawing the most important letters first. Then derive their shapes to related glyphs to make a whole font out of it.
- Try the font with different settings. Adjust scale, spacing, leading and alignment in the preview area to look at the font the way you intend it to be used.
- Freely copy content between glyphs.
