I would only give 4 stars, because its a good application which helped me a lot to learn new vocabs. Its addictive, efficient and offline. But there are sometimes some mistakes with the pronounciation (in hiragana). What would make this application the creme de la creme are some example sentences of how to use the words, an audio voice , a recorder and a listing by categories of the vocab. These would definitely make this program incontrovertible !

Not bad but ...
Quite a good app!
This is quite a good application and i do not have any reason to complain about anything. Having said this, I would greatly appreciate some further features if possible. it would be nice if there was a timer integrated: If you are thinking too long but clear the word finally, expired time is taken into account and the word will be tested more frequently than one cleared in shorter time. A quiz mode would be nice, giving you 3, 4, 5 alternatives to choose from instead of tapping a yes or no. It would be also nice if you could adjust the dosage of new vocabulary, giving you a real choice at which pace you want to learn new words, or repeat already cleared ones. Well, despite all these suggestions the app is a great tool to study Japanese and is highly recommended. Thank you very much Andre ;-)
Great learning tool
I bought this app to brush up on my Japanese reading skills. Unless you know Japanese words with the kanji, you will be completely lost when trying to read any written text in Japan. This app will help you learn easy to advanced words with big pictures of the kanji along with kana and definitions. There is no romaji in this app, so you must at least know how to read the kana characters.
Simple, Easy to Use, Makes Learning Fun.
I use Japanese Flip (and Kanji Flip) all the time. It makes learning Japanese fun and it is extremely easy to use on the go. Ive paid over $100 in buying flash cards for learning Japanese and this does exactly what I needed except for only $5. It also feel great supporting a developer that upgrades his app and takes suggestions. If you want to learn Japanese, Japanese Flip and Kanji Flip are very fun ways to start learning!
My killer app
This is my killer app for the iPhone and Touch platform. Im studying for the JLPT 2kyu, and my #1 priority is vocabulary building. This app is spot-on. With 2 hours of commuting per day on crowded trains, Ive tried many different study methods to use that time; flashcards, books, web-apps & programs. This smart flashcard-style app gives me 2 hours of study a day with no Internet connection necessary nor extra items to carry. Thank you for making this App. Bravo & 5 stars.
Awesome app!
Ive built my vocabulary faster with this program than with any other method that Ive used since beginning my studies almost two years ago! Hooray for a brilliant app!!! Well worth more than the paltry sum of 4.99!
Great for Quick, Fun Review of Japanese
Ive been studying Japanese for years now and I have to say that Japanese Flip is one of the better ways to accomplish this. Its fun and takes all the strain out of having to compile all your flashcards. Definitely worth the price of lunch at a fast food joint. To put it in perspective I just bought "Kanji Flip" because I like this one so much! Only a couple of comments / suggestions: 1. some of the entries seem weird (i.e. 隠しカメラ: hidden (spy) camera) and neither my Japanese wife nor I can really believe theyre on the JLPT... perhaps they were added for fun? 2. The author should add the ability to do the flash-card testing by viewing the cards from the English meaning and Hiragana reading as well as from the full word. As it stands now you see the full word and then have to click "Show Answer" to see the English meaning(s) and the pronunciation. Being able to view different "sides" of the flashcards first would allow the student to test himself from English to Japanese as well as Hiragana to Kanji / English. This can help a lot in being able to remember words from the English meaning or from the Japanese pronunciation side instead of just the Kanji side. Add that and I would give it 5 stars.
