Needs work

Thorough, but clumsy to use and the upgrade is an expensive subscription. Also, the app makers think that fruit is completely non-Paleo, but butter is okay. Overall, not useful.

Why no fruit?

The app is pretty thorough, but it doesnt allow you to track water, and they label all fruit "NO PALEO!" This is both untrue and annoying. Also, the upgrade is nearly $30, which is insane.

App for tracking foodto

Love the app. Easy to use. Only problem is: I paid for premium level on their website and these extras will not turn on. I have emailed 2times, no answer and would like to use these functions

Still Has A Long Ways To Go...

Admittedly Ive had the app for 20 minutes, and I can already tell you why it deserves two stars. 1) It takes you to an overview screen which has no button to log food items. You have to navigate through a series of menus to log food. This is silly as its a logging app - there need to be clear navigational options from the start page. 2) When navigating said menus, once you select something, it stays on the menu and you have to hit the right side of the screen in just the right place to go where you told it to go in the first place. Unintuitive and annoying. 3) What is marked as paleo or not paleo is mildly arbitrary. Im not sure what rules they are using...I use a frozen bag of bell peppers and onions - NOTHING ELSE ADDED and its labelled "not paleo." Huh? Okay...its vegetables. Cream, cheese and butter are marked as "paleo" for those that include such items in their diet. It wont count against your PaleoScore for the day. However, if you indulge in such a thing as a potato, it is "not paleo." Seems like there ought to be a yellow (somewhat paleo) flag for controversial items. 4) It seems to access some more useful features, like logging body measurements, they want you to spend $120 a year. I just paid $3 for the app and I feel like everywhere I click its asking me to "upgrade." Really? That just pisses me off. I understand it for something more advanced, but logging body measurements? Really? MyFitnessPal is a free app and allows you to do all of that for free. They may not have a fancy PaleoScore, but honestly, the way its calculated is seeing what percentage of calories you eat are from paleo sources. That COULD be very useful, but right now it feels like a ripoff. All this being said, the database seems to have a good amount of commercially available food items, but the search feature needs a lot of hand holding. If I type in "bell pepper," nothing came up. I had to type red pepper. Thats kind of dumb. Still looking for a better paleo food tracking app...but right now MyFitnessPal is looking pretty good still. Perhaps these app makers will take my critique to heart. For now, do not waste your $3 like I did.

Not intuitive & needs PaleoScore explanation.

The intention is great & with a few adjustments the app could be really strong. 1. There is no explanation of their "Paleo Score" or "Paleo Score by Calories". You can eat 100% Paleo foods for the day, and can end up with a "Score by Calories" of 70%. At a minimum the app needs to publish an explanation of how these "scores" are calculated. Without this explanation the "Paleo Score" is an arbitrary number and not helpful in providing insights and helping people optimize their food choices. 2. Food logging is bulky & navigation is not intuitive. Users should have the ability to log foods from the Daily Log screen.

Do not buy premium

Does not work with Fitbit unless you buy an additional 3rd party app.

Works Very Well - A Few Suggestions

I love that so many homemade foods and brands of foods I buy (like the exact brand of sardines and FCLO) are already plugged into the food database. There have only been a few custom food items Ive added after a month of using the app. Suggestions to improve user experience: The navigation approach causes me a lot of back and forth. Simplify it and figure out something far more intuitive. Updating and refreshing are jerky and slow, and the app crashes sometimes and returns to my iPhone 6 Plus home screen. The app freezes at other times and I have to shut it down and go find my place again. I think overall its a really good app, worth what I paid to unlock the nutritional analysis. I love that it lets me revise the daily intake reference values because I believe the USRDA values are pretty useless for helping me with my health. Keep up the improvements--I know you will.
