COMPLETE GAME review.
The blue one with the swift feet is back at it again with a little reinforcement! He is aided by Tails the ultimate fox in this new and improved adventure with obstacles Sonic alone cannot bypass. We even see a little action from The Tornado when Sonic becomes the eye in the sky trying to defeat Dr. Robotnik and Metal Sonic. In episode II of the 4th installment to the original Sonic game series, Sega surely delivered, as they should have. These designs are breath taking. Anyone who dislikes the designs of this game dislikes designs in general. Someone could say there are better designs in a more story-focused game like Sonic Colors or Sonic Generations, but these designs are EQUAL. After progressing further into the game, I realized Sonics homing attack is a little... awkward. It cant get better on Episode I, but it is a little weird here with the requirement of being so far off the ground in order for it to work, no higher and no lower. I would like to state a point I made on my review of episode I, which is that this game is repetitive. I still see a merge of previous Sonic installments equaling this entire game. Sky Fortress Zone Act 1 = Sky Chase Zone. Sky Fortress Zone Act 2 = Wing Fortress Zone (no fight, just run). Death Egg mk. II Zone Act 1 = Stardust Speedway Zone 3. (I will get into Death Egg mk. II Zone Boss later.) No matter! We are shown something new in this game, so why should I care about repetition? The point should be stressed on Episode I instead of Episode II. This game is a little more creative. I have collected all the emeralds. I can turn into Super Sonic. Now I have some suggestions. In Sonic the Hedgehog - Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I, there were alternate farewells to the story if you unsuccessfully/successfully collected the chaos emeralds. There is a farewell (TRY AGAIN) if you cant get them all, but there is NO farewell if you do collect the 7 emeralds in this game. Though this wont affect the final rating, I would really like a farewell. Possibly Metal Sonics head on the ground? It says "END" right on top of it? Or you can really impress me and show the deactivated robot flying around in space. Moving on. Again, am I controlling Super Sonic or am I controlling God? I have always hated Super Sonic when Tails is by his side because Tails has no chance of keeping up with Sonic. VERY GOOD IDEA to deactivate Super Sonic when Tails and Sonic do a team move. The best time for Super Sonic is Death Egg mk. II Zone Act 1, when Tails can actually keep up with Sonic (because the edge of the screen forces him to keep up!) as Metal Sonic shows he has no chance of beating Sonic. Very good part of the game. I enjoy what has been done here. This game still holds the tradition of addiction, which is a key component of every game ever. I also see a little that needs to be repaired. This review is 3/5 because of the repairs required. That is to the "More Games" button. It is broken. It is a pointless button! Fix the button, and I guarantee Sega will be rewarded handsomely. Not only that, but also EPISODE METAL LOCK ON! My BIGGEST suggestion for repair. Repairing Lock On would improve the reviews of so many players on here... DEFINITELY MINE! I heard a previous update was tragic (to say the least) for this game. I have confidence this will NOT happen again. The previous update for Episode I was outstanding, so I am sure an update with that much satisfactory levels can come through this game. Here is a little extra credit I would like to add to Segas grade. Normally, a game being misleading or confusing would be terrible. However, with the blue speed demon, this isnt the case. Misleading or confusing parts of Sonic games show the story IN INCREDIBLE AMOUNTS unless it is a bug. These parts show the challenge that makes up this game, which is equal to the challenge Labyrinth Zone proved to be for players of the original Sonic the Hedgehog. This is REALLY GOOD NEWS. This game will keep players busy on Oil Desert Zone, Sky Fortress Zone, and the 2 boss levels for as long as they can go. I was about to write how Sky Fortress Zone Act 1 is impossible to pass because of the spacing of obstacles, but perfect timing makes it very possible to pass. Challenge is key in these Sonic games, which Sega heard loud and clear (to the player: get good and play Sylvania Castle Zone... a lot). The final battle with Metal Sonic is pretty good. Good old Sonic (and now with Tails) vs. Metal and invincible Eggman, the CD flashback. Though the repetition comes into play when Sonic and Metal Sonic go through the long run to the edge of the stage. Death Egg mk. II Zone Boss is a level to hug the creator for. Great challenge while balancing the amount of running there is. It gives a feeling of Sonics inevitable death whilst the HEART attack Sonic could cause it about to happen. What of Tails? In Eggmans mess of a contraption, he must be doomed! Nah, this level is just too excellent for that to be true. Overall, really nice game. Sonic is still suffering with the glitches, but Sonic the Hedgehog 4 ep I and ep II fights back at all the criticism on the series. It was easy for Sega to make one of these games in the 1990s, but today, because of its prestige, it is a daunting task. Sonic Team took the standards of Sonic back then, and the standards of Sonic today, and started to juggle with them. They never lost control. Then we got a golden game of Sonic and Tails keeping their teamwork in check with a mix of Sonic installments + Sonic CD. Plus adding some challenge to the redesigns of the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 special stages. Im a supporter of this game, and would recommend it to a friend.
