Violet Stoner is due to be married and set to inherit a substantial amount from her mothers pension. Until that is, she dies under mysterious circumstances in the mansion of her aggressive step-father. Her final words “ The speckled band” are to sister Julia, perhaps a clue to her death? Julia’s thoughts turn to the gypsies who live on the grounds, as they all wear speckled handkerchiefs. However, when Julia announces her engagement and her step-father, Dr Grimsby Rylott, requests that she move into a room in the mansion, her fears soon start to turn towards him. During her first night she notices’ the bed is bolted to the ground, and soon after more mysterious things start to happen. Scared that her life will end as her sisters did, she seeks the help of Sherlock Holmes.
