This app is a recreation of the Noah Webster 1828 two-volume dictionary. Its intrinsic value will not only be of great interest to those studying American heritage and Christian studies, but also to writers and those exploring poetry.

Noah Websters 1828 American Dictionary contains the greatest number of Biblical definitions given in any reference volume. It is an invaluable resource written when American values and patriotism were based on Christian values.

Of interest to poets and writers, The Noah Webster dictionary was used extensively by Emily Dickinson. We know that she made frequent and extensive use of Noah Websters American Dictionary of the English Language in writing her poems, paying attention not only to the definitions but also to Websters etymologies and his illustrative quotations.

Being able to see how definitions have evolved today is fascinating, and a great resource when studying.

You can easily search or browse the entire dictionary and add favourites to revisit later.

Lacks full definitions

I have the real Websters 1828 dictionary and this app does not have full definitions. Its very incomplete and I want a refund.

Great app, wrong name

I have been looking for a Websters 1828 Dictionary app for a long time, and I love this one! One problem though: The app is wrongly named the "Noel" Websters Dictionary in 2 places—on the cover image and the app title. Please fix as its a bit embarrassing!

Yes!

I have been wanting this in my pocket for a some time now. This is a definitive work. Some of you just got that... ;-)

Great resource!

Very impressive!

No good ( iPhone 4)

I was excited to see this app for iPhone but was disappointed to see that it wont work with my iPhone 4.

Great!

Love this dictionary! As a Christian I love how the 1828 version has definitions to words in the Bible that most modern dictionaries do not. However, I do believe it would be even better if it had a thesaurus to it as well.

Noah Websters 1828

I love this dictionary! I use it to witness to people right alongside with my Holy Bible. People today dont understand how the English language had changed. I point out that Satan has been changing language in order to change the Word of God. I point this out between the NIV vs. the KJV & then have people look at the differences in the definitions of the word "morality." I am very glad this book is still with us today & an app on an iPhone, no less!
