Description
This N3 Nursing Tools app will provide a quick and accurate calculation of a newborns Appearance, Pulse, Grimace, Activity, & Respiration (APGAR) to be used as a reference or educational purposes.
The test is typically done at one and five minutes after birth, and may be repeated later if the score is and remains low. Scores 7 and above are generally desired, 4 to 6 fairly low, and 3 and below are typically regarded as critically low.
Developed in 1952 by anesthesiologist (Dr. Virginia Apgar), the APGAR score has been a standard in assessing the viability of a newborn ever since. Another mnemonic devised for a newborn assessment is the phrase “How Ready Is This Child”, meaning Heart rate, Respiratory effort, Irritability, Tone, and Color.
