Description
A PEP (profilaxia pós-exposição ao HIV ) se insere no conjunto de estratégias de Prevenção Combinada, cujo principal objetivo é ampliar as formas de intervenção para evitar novas infecções pelo HIV. A profilaxia consiste em tratamento com terapia antirretroviral (TARV) por 28 dias, a fim de evitar a sobrevivência e replicação do vírus HIV no organismo do paciente. Como o prazo máximo de eficácia entre o evento de exposição ao vírus HIV e o início da PEP é de no máximo 72 horas, é imprescindível que os usuários do SUS expostos ao vírus saibam de maneira fácil, rápida e ágil a quais locais e equipamentos de saúde devem recorrer para o início imediato da profilaxia.
