Minimalistic in a good way

I use this app quite a bit; the iPad version is a good companion in the kitchen, showing you which ingredients you have, the ability to set multiple timers, and highlighting the recipe step you are currently on. There are some minor usability issues that could be improved but overall a solid and well thought-out app.

Just the app I was looking for!

My online recipe db site was shutting down and I did not want to get my recipes locked to another website, so I went looking for an app that did not require an online account and could export to a portable format. Basil makes it easy to import and categorize recipes from a variety of well known websites, and provides a flexible system to import recipes from the rest. Its also great to use when Im cooking and has some smart features like ingredient cross-off, one touch timers and anti-lock when in recipe view. Recently one of my favourite sites changed their recipe format, but I submitted a bug report and it was fixed in a day. Well worth the price since I have gotten a lot of use out of it. Update: 2016-10-02: Like an idiot I hadnt backed up my data in a while and something went wrong and I could not open the app without crashing. I contacted the dev and he sent me a fixed version of my data. Still loving this app.

Total crap

The app does not work. It supports barely any recipe websites and the ones that it does support do not always work. If the website is unsupported the app forces you to manually highlight parts of the page. Since the app does not block ads or other unnecessary elements you either include random ads or other irreverent information. The highlighting itself is incredibly frustrating as iOSs implementation is broken. The app uses no iOS extension features. It not only doesnt use standard iOS design language but forces you to install a bookmark in Safari. Its 2016, we have had the iOS sharesheet for 2 years now. This app is terrible, crashy, fails to sync, and is a overall total disappointment.

Good simple program

Ive been using this for about 3 years now, and its always worked fine for me. Its a nice simple program, can be used offline to access recipes, and doesnt hog phone storage. It lacks some sophistication when populating the grocery list (frozen peas does not go in produce, it goes in frozen foods) but overall Im satisfied. Also, the one time I had a glitch, the developer responded to me personally, released an update soon after.

I love this app, but it keeps crashing

I love this app. It organizes all of the recipes I add, and makes a grocery list for you (even categorizes by isle). However, lately its been freezing upon opening. Ive had to delete and re download several times! The most recent time I lost a few recipes because I couldnt save them to my Dropbox before it froze. Please send out an update that fixes this!!

Great app

Im not sure why everyone is saying this app doesnt work. Ive been using for years and its great. It easily imports recipes from 52 major food/cooking sites. One issue (very minor to me) is that I cant import from SimplyRecipes.com but I have emailed support.

Great recipe App, lacking some critical features

The App is great for organizing recipes. Supports a lot of the common recipe web sites. Cons: - No ability to print recipes (so you can share them with your Mom who doesnt have the Internet or just put them in an old fashioned notebook). Only way to print is to email the recipes to yourself and then print them from your Mail App. - Export options limited to Email, but omit most of the metadata like pictures, etc. - No updates for a year. Is this App abandoned?
