Identify garden birds by their songs and calls.

Make your own bird song recordings too and keep a bird song diary.

The highest quality, most functional Bird Song app on the market by far.

Dave Farrow is one of Britains top bird song experts and is the author of several books including the popular Field Guide to the Bird Songs and Call of Britain and Northern Europe.

Have you ever heard a bird singing in your garden and wondered "What kind of bird is that?". This app is a great tool to help you learn to quickly and easily identify garden birds by their songs and calls. Its great fun to use too! Identification can be enjoyed by the whole family, and can engage children with the natural world around them.

Dave Farrows guide to garden bird song identification has been created by professional published ecologists and uses Robin Chittendens proprietary image library.

Sunbird Images apps appear in Countryfiles top 10, and have been described as "incredibly useful" by ITVs Seth Conway and "lovely" by Adam Vaughan of the Guardian.

We only use professional published content.

The app does not need an internet connection, all songs and calls are downloaded when the app is purchased, seventy four species in total.

Manual identification is available for all species included in the app. With manual identification you simply listen to birds and answer a few questions on the sounds you are hearing to help identify them.

We have included an early trial release of Automatic Recognition in the app for you to have a play with if you like. We hope this feature will help you identify common bird species, but it needs a good quality recording to work, and takes a bit of time and patience to get used to. Automatic Recognition takes place on the device, no connection to the internet or mobile network is needed. Remember this is an early release of this innovative feature, so please be gentle! Follow the Developer Website link to see a demo of Automatic Recognition on YouTube.

Excellent

Great

No identification of birds by recording

Quite a lot disappointed: Would have expected the recognition of bird calls and songs to work at least in some cases but up to now it did not succeed at all: I tried it with reference bird songs from an official bird determining CD from Kosmos: "Die Vögel Mitteleuropas". The app which was running on an ipad 3 did not find any matches neither for black birds nor for chaffinches. Needless to say that sound quality of recording was optimal under the given circumstances. As a further step, I used a demo bird song of a chaffinch directly from the Bird Song Id app, recorded and replayed it to be identified by the app itself, which wasnt successful either... My resume is that not even under optimal conditions recognition of birds by their songs or calls is ensured by Bird Song Id or to say it in other words: Bird Song Id never manages to identify birds by recorded songs or calls. Pros of the app is the brillant quality of the recorded bird sound samples and a huge base of classified birds. A detailled description of birds behaviour, habitat and general classification criteria would be useful. The handling of the app is straight forward and intuitive. Recordings are related with geographical location which is practial for later identification of the sound sample. As the app Bird Song Id implies the cabability of bird recognition via sound recordings which doesnt seem to work at all, my classification is a ranking two of five.

Big help in identifying birds
