This used to be the best Australian GPS app. Now it no longer works since the last update not on my IPad Air with the latest OS nor on my iPad mini with an older OS. What a pity

Hat nicht einmal richtig funktioniert während meiner Australien-Rundreise. Rausgeworfenes Geld. Diese App tut nicht das, was ein Navi tun sollte.
Super Navi - Gans ohne Maps (und ohne Gebühren) in Down Under unterwegs
Kann der Kritik einiger weniger Nutzer ganz und gar nicht zustimmen. Wollte die App in D nicht bewerten, da ich sie für ein Nischenprodukt für Deutsche hielt. Nun aber aufgrund der Kritik einiger Anderer Nutzer nun dennoch. 1) Hatte erst bedenken, ob nicht doch Roaming-Gebühren in Down Under entstehen - ist nix passiert, obwohl man den Flight-Modus a, iPhone nicht einschalten kann (dann funktioniert die App nicht). Es wurden in meinem Fall aber keine Daten übertragen und somit sind auch über Wochen Nutzung hinweg keine Roaming-Gebhren angefallen. 2) Habe die Software 3 Wochen im Raum Melbourne - City bis Lake Eildon, Halls Gap, Wilsons Prom, Ottway NP genutzt. Niemals Probleme gehabt (nur mit dem Zigarettenanzünder des Mietwagens der nicht funzte). Immer gut geleitet an jedes Ziel gelangt! Musste fast nie aufs Display schauen, da die Ansagen sehr präzise sind. 3) Die Routenplanung war bei der Vorversion kaum gegeben (einziger Nachteil) - vielleicht wurden entsprechende Funktionen ja jetzt ergänzt… 4) Da Toll-Ways ausgeschlossen werden können, gerät man als Nicht-Aussie auch nicht unfreiwillig auf kostenpflichtige Straßen - das war in Melbourne definitiv von Vorteil, da dort eben solche Straßen auch nicht selten sind. Trotz leichter Kritik (Pkt. 3) gebe ich der App aufgrund der Zuverlässigkeit die volle Punktzahl. Selbst meine australischen Verwandten waren positiv überrascht. Für alle Reisenden nach Down Under ein echter Kauftip! Auch für jene, die das Dritte oder vierte Mal reisen ein "Must Have". Wenn ich daran denke, wie viele Karten wir schon gekauft haben… Vor Ort (in Nationalparks o. ä.) ist man zum Wandern, Radfahren etc. eh auf Spezialkarten angewiesen.
Superb Product at a steal!
I find it hard to believe that there are no reviews of this great product. I downloaded app last January before leaving Canada onto my iPhone 3GS as I did not want to pay expensive roaming data rates! And the competition ( I use the very good Co Pilot in Canada ) in Australia is more expensive! I believe I paid $20, at $15 it is a steal! So from Sydney to Gundaroo to Melbourne to Agnes Water and back to Sydney in the rental Ford this app was utterly flawless! An expensive standalone unit could not locate a lane to my sisters place a few kilometers west of Gundaroo. This one did! Easy to program, great maps with excellent speed warnings ! Well done MetroView.
Do Not Visit Oz Without It!
I recently returned to the States from a couple of weeks Down Under, and MetroView made a huge difference. Its accurate, clear audio direction made navigating Sydneys busy streets a relative breeze, leaving me more time to cope with my never-driven-on-the-left handicap. The map motion, lane guidance, speed zone and camera warnings as I travelled south through the Snowies were all timely and flawless. Late one evening, I attempted to follow a paper map on what should have been a short, simple trip, and became hopelessly lost. After Sheila (as the pleasant female voice came to be known) rescued me and I was comfortably settled at my destination, I reviewed the side streets and roundabouts she led me through and was reassured to find she clearly found the best route. The lack of local POI storage, even with data disabled due to intl roaming, was scarcely an issue as I tended to plan and schedule in the evening when wifi was convenient. Dollar for dollar, MetroView Australia is clearly among my most useful App Store purchases.
Good value
I bought this app for a 2 week visit from the USA thinking that the $20 price was small compared to the cost of my trip and the full map download would be useful since I didnt want to use the 3G in Australia and felt that we would be away from WiFi spots most of the time. Voice guidance is very good and it was easy to enter saved destinations even before leaving for the trip. Two weaknesses are: 1) a route finder that occasionally made some poor choices (a problem that plagues all GPS navigation devices) and 2) Large scale maps lack practically all detail (Street-level maps are good, however). Otherwise, this app worked very well and is worth the (now reduced) cost.
Awesome update and Service
There was a small (but vital to me) mistake in a local map image. I reported this to the Dev Team, who promised a fix with the next update. That arrived today along with my map fixed. What great service for an inexpensive option in this category.
