This app lacks features, options, artistic design and, worst of all, a decent pai gow tiles engine. Im wondering how it ever got approved for sale on iTunes. New tiles players hoping to improve their knowledge of the game should look elsewhere. As a free app, this would have been a curiosity. At $1.99, its a disappointment.

Description
Pai Gow is played by 2 to 8 participants, one of them play as the banker. Each participant is dealt 4 tiles, from a deck of 32 tiles. Each player has to decide on the strategy as of how to divide the 4 tiles into two hands of 2 tiles to create a high hand and a second-high hand. The two hands will then be compared with those of the bankers. The player wins the bet only if both hands have a higher value than those of the bankers. The player loses the bet if both hands have a lower value than those of the bankers. It is a push if the player wins one hand and loses the other hand.
Decide on how to structure your high hand and your second-high hand to win the banker. Should you place stronger tiles in your second-high hand, at the expense of a weaker high hand? Or should you choose to give up on the second-high hand and just rely on a super strong high hand?

This game has been anticipated ever since the App store opened for true pai gow players..Thank you for this game, sound effects maybe or dice cup in the future? Otherwise a solid title.
Strictly middle of the road
Ive been wanting to learn Pai Gow for a long time, so I tried out this app. Its the only one for the iPhone and I wanted to be able to teach myself on the go whenever I had time. And I really really wanted to love this app, but its just "meh." The sub-standard graphics and interface I can get used to. I definitely think they could be better, but I can look past that. What I feel is sorely lacking is the lack of explanation of anything. If things were explained more clearly (i.e. assume the person playing is an absolute beginner and knows nothing) then that would definitely help this out. Please update with more usability!!!
Bare Bones
It works and is okay for a first effort but lacks features or options. Graphics are basic and sound is limited to clicks and a cha-ching. You begin every session with $5000 and this resets every time the app is opened. Every hand requires you to pull up a betting dialog and pick $100 or $25, no other choice and it does not remember the most recent bet. Always deals 4 hands but you can see and play only the hand in the south position against the North position. Banking is not an option. Tiles are not labeled (e.g. Teen, Chap Ng) but that would be good to see in the future. When setting the hands it would be nice to see their ranking too (e.g. Gong, Eight). Special request: How about a tutorial mode that advises when a hand is not set the "house way"?
Great for polishing the skills
I had no clue how to play pai gow so after reading some online tutorials i was ready to start playing. This app does that perfectly, however it could use a couple things to make it 5 stars. 1. Need to be able to able be the "banker" this is a major reason to play pai gow. Also call the north player "the house" since thats who they are. 2. It would be great if it had a training mode to show you how to play the "house way". 3. The rendundant tapping gets annoying. Maybe just have the wager amount set until you elect to change it. Also have an option for a "quick showdown" where you only tap the screen once to see everyones hands instead of 3 times. All in all its a great way to practice playing pai gow without losing your bankroll.
