However, as great as these technologies and apps are, they operate on real time. And when you’re trying to juggle time zones, rosters and family routines, sometimes real time just doesn’t work.
The Storytime App was developed by a father whose job regularly requires him to travel away from the family home. While on the road in various parts of the world, he found that one of the things he and his children missed the most was their regular bedtime story routine. Emails, social media and phone calls could keep them up to date with day to day stuff, but they didn’t come close to replicating the closeness of lying in bed together, reading stories before saying goodnight.
Storytime lets the parent who is away record their voice reading a story which can then be accessed on demand by the family members at home. Storytime brings you as close as possible to being there to read to your children.
While it was originally designed with fly in fly out and other travelling working parents in mind, it is also perfect for parents who live apart or to give other family members such as grandparents or aunts and uncles an active role in the children’s daily routine.
Storytime can’t change the physical distance but it can shorten the emotional gap of living with loved ones away from the family home. It also provides a sanity saving break for the parent left at home – they can tuck a child into bed with the Storytime App while they go about getting other children ready or other household tasks.
