The U.S. Navy Supervisor of Salvage wanted to provide to their on-scene salvage personnel, access to their extensive library of marine casualty response know-how; the “hard-earned and sometimes blood-stained” knowledge and lessons-learned from decades of U.S Navy response to all types of commercial and military “ships in distress” around the world, during peacetime and war, and salvage operations of all sizes and scopes. “The Handbook” was intended to be a condensed and “ready-reference” of expert guidance that could fit in the salvor’s hip pocket.

JMS Naval Architects & Salvage Engineers first authored the U.S. Navy Salvors Handbook for the Supervisor of Salvage in 1990, and since its government publication, JMS has received numerous requests for the handbook from commercial mariners and salvors all over the world.

Although the U.S. Navy has kept the handbook up-to-date with several revisions over the years, they only print enough copies for their salvage personnel. Since the initial publication, JMS has, from time to time, printed small batches of reprints with special permission from the U.S. Navy.

“Over the years, most salvors have treasured their dog-eared copy, and are slow to lend it out…as it has been too long out-of-print and hard to find.” ~ J.R. Wilkins, Director of Ocean Engineering, Supervisor of Salvage and Diving, USN

Commercial and military marine salvors are not the only ones who find this ready-reference indispensible. Owners and operators of both commercial and recreational vessels of almost any size and purpose will find this “practical compendium of marine casualty response know-how” very handy -- if not invaluable -- before, during and after a ship casualty. Naval architects, marine engineers and other maritime professions rely on it as a handy diagnostic, repair, design and engineering reference; while at the office, and on the water.

JMS now makes the same expert guidance available for your iPhone.

JMS US Navy Salvage Manual App

As a former US Navy Salvage officer and ADCI Air Diving Suupervisor for a number of years, the opportunity of having this manual at my fingertips on my iphone is stellar. Great job, JMS Capt. David Robinson, P.E.

Good reference but...

You can download it for free and store it in a PDF reader app. Many more improvements are needed to make it worth the price.

Great reference!!

Perfect app for anyone interested in marine salvage, naval architecture or marine surveying. The new calculator feature is awesome. I always kept a hard copy handy when I was a Navy Salvage Officer but the app is even better - lightweight and highly portable!

Good idea x 2

This app just keeps getting better – updates for free! This was a great book when you were lucky enough to find the paper version. Not just a reference but actual guidance too. Fundamentals. Something useful in it for anyone to do with boats, ships, not just workboats or just for engineers. If you work on the water you should have it. Now I can have it with me all the time. Even my iPad. Great price as a gift too. The new bollard pull calculator is great. Keep them coming!

Great app!

This is a great app, with loads of useful information at your fingertips. There is so much information available, it is perfect for our project managers and construction supervisors when on the job or in the office. Keep making it better!
