Project Management Professional, usually refers to as PMP, is a project management certification by the Project Management Institute (PMI) in US. PMP and qualification exam is based primarily on the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), which has been recognized by the ANSI.

In the 1980s efforts were made to standardize project management procedures and approaches. The PMI produced the first version of PMBOK in 1996, second version in 2000, third version in 2004, fourth version in 2008 and fifth version in 2012.
