Description
Kiwix enables you to have the whole of Wikipedia (and many other web sites) available wherever you go! On a boat, in the middle of nowhere, or when data charges are too high, Kiwix gives you access to the whole human knowledge for free. You dont need Internet, everything is stored on your mobile device!
Download the Kiwix program from the iTunes App Store then download the ZIM data files which contain the content. You can download these files directly using the Kiwix App on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac - but this might take a long time, may incur expensive charges for the download, and is liable to errors because some files are rather large.

Endlich ein Ersatz für Wiki Offline, seinerzeit 8€
Der offline-Betrachter ist schnell, stellt Formeln und Gleichungen dar und wer es braucht, kann sich die Version mit dem Bildmaterial laden. Derzeit lässt sich jedoch die App offline nicht starten (iOS 9). Eigenartig ist Folgendes: Wird am iOS-Gerät WLAN ausgeschaltet und ich befinde mich im Bereich meines WLAN, lässt sich die App starten. Befinde ich mich außerhalb meines WLAN stürzt die App ab. Sehr eigenartig, möglicherweise hilft der Hinweis dem engagierten Entwickler. Weiter so!
Endlich Wikipedia offline
- Wer im App Store nach "Wikipedia offline" sucht, findet alles mögliche, aber nicht diese App. + sie bietet aber u. a. genau das: die Wikipedia ohne Internetverbindung + alle Artikel in voller Länge (deutsch 4,4 GB) + wer den Platz hat, auch mit Bildern (24 GB) + die Wikipedia Ausgabe ist ziemlich aktuell + auch viele andere Sprachen werden angeboten und lassen sich parallel speichern und durchsuchen - Am Anfang der Artikel fehlt die Inhaltsübersicht mit anklickbaren Überschriften - die (auf einem iPhone 4S kleine) Schrift läßt sich nur maximal 15% Größer stellen. Die in den iOS Einstellungen als Standard gewählte Schriftgröße wird ignoriert. + Download läuft auch im Hintergrund + automatische Aktualisierung, Intervall wählbar + Download und automatische Aktualisierung lassen sich aufs WLAN beschränken + werbefrei und top Preis ;-)
Offline nicht möglich
Die App hat einmal gut funktioniert. Irgendwann war eine offline Nutzung nicht mehr möglich. Ein Update hat dies bisher nicht behoben. Ich hoffe auf Änderung, denn bisher war es die beste Wiki-offline-App.
Umfangreiche App
Kann ich nur empfehlen. Beim Download muss das iPad mit dem Ladegerät verbunden sein.
