The App ‘Modes’ is a great training tool for musicians to improve their improvisation and aural skills.
Similar to musical scales, a mode is a sequence of the notes but each degree (Major scale) of the note can be used as a tonic. There are seven modes and each mode has a different quality of sound.
The Ionian (Major scale) and Aeolian (natural minor scale) are the most famous modes of all.
Depending on the musical style, modes can be used in various ways. To understand modes requires knowledge of musical scales (check the App ‘Diatonic Scale’).
The App ‘Circle of 5ths Pro’ or ‘Circle of 5ths Master’ is highly recommended for understanding modes which have more than 7 sharps & 7 flats. e.g. D# Lydian mode has 10 sharps..
