Eviter !
The New Yorker is probably the best magazine you can buy these days, without thought-provoking contents and a different take on world news. The app is stable and beautifully done, and the digital subscriptions reasonably priced, either in monthly or annual format. My only complaint is that at this point only US and canadian print subscribers get free access to the digital version, and that overseas customers such as myself still have to pay (but at 4.99€ a month vs 3.99€ an issue, the sacrifice is not big). Once overseas print subscribers also have free access (and according to customer services, this is in the works), this app will rate 5 stars
FONCTIONNEMENT ALEATOIRE
Why US & Canada only ?
Dear New Yorker, I love your magazine so much that I am paying a hell of money every year to receive it with weeks of delay (when I receive it ) here in France. Using the web site made me mad more than once with log ins and passwords and 403 not found ... When I bought my Ipad 1 month ago, the very first thing I did was download the NY app ... To discover that poor underdevelopped european subscribers cannot access to it... And the consumer service service was as gently as a parisian waiter in august. I ll read The economist on my Ipad then.
Good content bad app
The New Yorker is an excellent magazine, the articles are always very interesting. However the iPad app is very buggy and makes enjoying the magazine much more difficult than it should be. Often it stops in the middle of downloading a magazine and it is not clear how to restart it again. Sometimes "loses" a magazine from the library when "checking for updates". There is no easy way to view just a list of the magazines you have downloaded to the iPad, you have to browse down a long list of all the magazines that have ever existed to find older ones you have downloaded. The reader doesnt seem able to remember where you are in a magazine if you flip to one of the others for a while. There no way of making bookmarks to articles you liked. You can delete magazines you dont want to keep (and download them again for free later, which I like) but there is no way of keeping any individual articles you found interesting. All in all, its a huge disappointment and I am left wondering whether I should renew my subscription or not.
Arnaque!
